Founded in 2012, we raised our first institutional fund in 2015.  We are a private equity investor with a flexible approach & mandate. We have a passion for helping businesses grow and develop.

Our Funds & Criteria

We invest our own funds alongside those of our institutional investors.  We have committed funds which means we can move quickly and with certainty.

Typically we will look for majority stakes in UK focused small – mid market companies.  We are flexible investors and will consider most types of transactions, structures and businesses.

Our Team:

Mark Colley

Managing Director

Mark is the founder and managing director of Merino Private Equity. He is responsible for sourcing new investments as well as managing the portfolio.

Prior to founding Merino, Mark worked at EPIC Private Equity and 3i plc. He read Economics at Cambridge University, is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and has an MBA from INSEAD Business School.

Mark is married with two girls. When he is not encouraging his daughters to share his burden of supporting Sunderland football club, he enjoys playing golf and mountain biking.

Jack Kinnersley

Investment Executive

Jack joined Merino in February 2015 after graduating with a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University. Jack enjoys the challenge of acquiring and improving businesses, taking an active role post transaction to drive growth and development. Jack has completed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification since joining Merino, and likes to continually learn about new industries.

Jack grew up in Cardiff, Wales and has also lived in Sydney, Australia. Outside of work, Jack likes to participate and follow a broad range of sports. These include running the London Marathon in 2018, and completing his sailing skipper qualification.

Jack is responsible for Tobar Group and Paul’s Cycles.

Ben Reavley

Investment Executive

Ben joined Merino in January 2017, having previously worked at OC&C Strategy Consultants.  Ben read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University.  At OC&C Ben worked on a variety of board level strategy projects and a number of due diligence and transaction support pieces for mid-cap to mega-cap private equity groups.  Ben enjoys understanding complex businesses, situations, and transactions.  As an ex-consultant, he also enjoys working with management teams to turnaround and grow their businesses over the long term.

Ben is a keen sportsman playing rugby to University standard.  He currently competes in triathlons and plays squash (quite poorly), having taken up both sports once moving to London.

Ben is responsible for Komfort Partitioning, Independent Plant Hire Group, and BC Ceramics.

Hugh Moss

Operating Partner

Hugh joined Merino in 2019 having spent the previous 25 years successfully developing many well-known brands across several different industries in both B2B and B2C sectors. A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Hugh has a wealth of strategic and operational experience from which to draw when supporting Merino-owned companies to improve, successfully compete and achieve profitable growth.

Hugh lives in Cambridge with his wife and two children. He is well-travelled and likes to get off the beaten track and immerse himself in the local culture. When he is not entertaining the kids, Hugh also enjoys trekking, climbing mountains and occasionally playing golf very badly.
